RoboForm 7 – what is it and why do I care?

Most of us have way too many passwords to remember, so we find creative ways of storing them in places where we (hopefully) can find them in the furture. I won’t disclose how I store my hundred or so passwords, but I will say that my wife has used RoboForm for a few years now and is very satisfied with the service. If you are at all ‘password-challenged’, as in you have trouble finding a password when you need it, then seriously consider signing up for RoboForm. There’s even a free version you can use to get started. Here’s more information about the new version(s) of RoboForm to help you decide if it’s for you.

How it works:

Install RoboForm

Choose Your Master Password

Your Master Password is the one password you’ll need to remember. This password will encrypt and secure all of your RoboForm data. They don’t store your Master Password anywhere, so make sure you don’t forget it!

Remember Your Passwords

There’s no start-up time with RoboForm-just surf the web as you normally would. When you login to a website, RoboForm automatically offers to save your Login information.

Simplify Your Logins

Now that RoboForm has remembered your login information, simply click on that Login and RoboForm will take you to that site and log you in automatically.

Access RoboForm Everywhere

Access your RoboForm Logins and Identities on all of your computers and devices. RoboForm runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Windows USB drives. They also have apps for most popular mobile phone platforms including iOS, Android, and Windows Mobile. Use the RoboForm Everywhere (Online) service to synchronize and back up your data to the cloud, providing one-click access from everywhere.

Fill Forms Fast

Use RoboForm Identities to securely store your name, address, email, credit cards, and all your other information. Just click on your RoboForm Identity to fill entire web forms automatically.

Generate Strong Passwords

Since you no longer need to remember or type your passwords, you can use RoboForm to generate strong, unique passwords for each of the sites that you visit.

If not RoboForm, then consider a similar product from LastPass. Both have a very good reputation.

And of course some will ask, “are password managers secure?” Yes and no. Yes, because using a password manager like Roboform is significantly safer than the alternatives most people choose – you know what I mean if you’re still putting your passwords on sticky-notes tacked on the side of your monitor. And No because there’s still malware out there that’s purpose in life is to steal passwords off your system, and password managers won’t do anything to prevent this. There’s also the ‘master’ password that provides access to all your other passwords. Lose this or give it to the bad guys and you’re toast. Still, password managers are SO much better than just about anything else you do to secure your passwords that you should seriously consider using one.

Now, if only I took my own advice…
