From my perspective, this camera is amazing, and is amazingly inexpensive. Setup was easy. Adding a microSD card is essential if you want to record anything past the 15 sec. snippet stored in the Amazon Cloud when motion detection is activated. As mentioned in the Digital Trends review above, notifications work sometimes but not always – WyzeCam knows there’s a problem and they’re “working on it”. Also, the lens on this camera is wide-angle, which is great for indoor use, but not so great if you’re trying to capture outdoor scenes. My Belkin netcam is a much better camera for that purpose, though it’s also a lot more expensive.
You get a whole lot of functionality for $20 with the WyzeCam V2. And once you set it up, you can share the camera with family and friends (or not). One interesting thing I discovered is once you have shared the camera, any/all alert notifications will go to them as well. I think this is a bug, and your friends will soon let you know that 2am alert notifications from your camera are NOT appreciated. You have been warned…
